MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A naked man with only a towel wrapped around his waist, high on acid and armed with a handgun has been arrested after shooting that gun at a Muskegon businesses.
The incident happened on Saturday evening outside the Happy’s Pizza on Apple Avenue.
The suspect’s wife said that she’s just thankful her three children are safe after witnessing their father shoot out a glass door.
Muskegon Township police said that Phillip Engle, 27, walked next door from his house to the Happy’s Pizza restaurant with his three small children.
Engle’s wife said that he was high on acid and meth.
The owner of the businesses said that their surveillance video shows Engle wearing only a towel, tapping on the glass door asking to be let in.
The restaurant said that staff told Engle to leave, but that’s when he displayed a pistol and fired one shot, shooting out the glass on the door.
A staff member then ran outside and grabbed the three children, and kept them inside the building until help showed up.
Police said that Engle walked back to his house, and was standing on his porch with the handgun when they arrived. After an officer drew his weapon, Engle agreed to drop his pistol and was taken into custody.
Engle faces several misdemeanor charges including destruction of property and discharging his firearm.
Engle’s wife said that she has filed a personal protection order from her husband. She also said that Engle doesn’t have a known history of drug abuse.
The couple's three small children, ages six, four and three, are home with their mother after a visit from Child Protective Services.
