WYOMING, Mich. --  A woman from Wyoming was left for dead after being hit by a driver.

It happened Tuesday night at the corner of Buckingham Street and Michael Avenue.

Lisa Bunnell said she's part of an August challenge group for runners. She said she's familiar with the area where she gets her miles in, adding she uses safety precautions every time she hits the pavement.

"I felt really safe in the area with carrying a personal alarm...some of the things that have been going on with runners," Bunnell said. "That was a false sense of security. I was almost done, I was two and a half blocks from home and I was almost to the other side of Buckingham and a car turned left and hit me on my left side."

The driver, Bunnell said, kept going.

"I flipped to the curb, bounced my face," Bunnell said. "I run with an alarm-pulled it...tried to flag down cars...have anybody help and nobody stopped so I collected myself and walked home."

During that two and a half block walk, Bunnell said she could feel she was bleeding, but wasn't sure how severe.

"I couldn't even tell if my eye was in the socket because of the swelling was so bad," she said.

Once she arrived home, her family helped get her to a hospital. While covered in scrapes and bruises, miraculously, Bunnell has no broken bones or serious injuries.

Still shaken by the impact, nearly 48 hours later, Bunnell sits and wonders what else she can do to stay safe while running.

"I had a light on my shirt, I was on the sidewalk crossing the street, my shoes are reflective...just about everything I wear is reflective," Bunnell said. "I run with a  security alarm. I don't know how much more I could've done."

Bunnell is also left to wonder why the person who hit her never stopped.

"How can you not see if somebody's OK? They had to have seen me. There's no doubt in my mind because I seen them waiting to turn left," Bunnell said. "Accidents happen, but to leave somebody like that not knowing if they're alright, it...it...I don't understand it."

Police in Wyoming said they're looking for the driver of a light-colored sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
