ROCKFORD, Mich. — Success is expected in Rockford, but even the Rams will admit they were pleasantly suprised by last year’s conference title.

“I’m so proud of the guys on last year’s team for what they accomplished, for what they had to overcome,” said Rams head coach Ralph Munger, who begins his 35th season as a head coach and 23rd with the Rams. “You would never think that possible, but they did.”

The Rams won their fifth consecutive OK Red title thanks to a stout defense that was led by linebackers Brent Showers and Randy Garvin. Showers and Garvin are no longer with the Rams after graduating in the spring. To make up for the loss of two great defensive players, the Rams are looking to the other side of the ball.

Offensively, I think we gotta kick it into high gear. I’ve almost forgotten what that looks like,” joked Munger. “Hopefully we’ll score some points. I’d say the group we got to rely on is, collectively again the whole team, but the offense has got to come around much more this year, earlier. And it’s got to be more productive.”

Rockford opens the season on August 28 against Utica Eisenhower.
