Boy, 8, seriously injured after hitting car with bicycle in St. Joseph County

NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An 8-year-old boy was seriously injured after side-swiping a car while on his bicycle, police said.

On August 13 around 5 p.m., the boy was trying to cross M-66 from M-86 onto Bonham Road. However, police say he didn’t see a Buick that was headed south on M-66 and pulled out in front of the car. The driver, Joyce Waltke, 79, tried to avoid the crash when the bicycle side-wiped the car.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Waltke and a passenger in her car were not injured.
