ALLENDALE, Mich. — Colleges and universities around the country will welcome new and returning students to campus for the upcoming school year, and Grand Valley State University is making social media part of their move-in week.

About 6,000 students are scheduled to move into the dorms and apartments on the school’s Allendale campus starting August 18. President Thomas Haas, GVSU staff, and alumni will be at the campus to help with the process.

As students move into their new homes for the semester, GVSU wants you to post stories and pictures to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and use the hashtag #gvsumovein.  Photos of students and the school preparing for the busy week were already pouring in by 5 a.m. on Monday.

In addition, the school has planned events throughout the week to help make the transition a more pleasant experience. President Haas will serve families ice cream on Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. at the Kleiner Commons. There will also be an official welcoming celebration on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse.

A schedule of move-in dates by building is available online.
