GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Silver Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is scheduled to begin at Rapid Central Station in Grand Rapids Monday.

This new transit system will improve public transportation options in the greater Grand Rapids area. The Silver Line connects Grand Rapids, Kentwood, and Wyoming, and will also connect the southern end of the Grand Rapids metro area to the Medical Mile. The majority of the route will be along Division Avenue, and from the intersection at Wealthy Street the route will loop through downtown and include stations at major employment centers, medical facilities, and entertainment locations.

The Silver Line will operate on a 10-minute frequency during peak hours, and a 20-minute frequency during off-peak hours. The weekend service frequency has not been finalized yet, but riders can expect the hours to mimic times that already exist: about 5 a.m. until midnight.

The ceremonial first ride will leave the Kroc Center Station on Division Avenue at 9 a.m. and will arrive at Rapid Central Station, where the system will open at 9:30 a.m.

The project has been more than ten years in the making and will be Michigan’s first bus rapid transit line.
