One dead after car vs. bicycle crash

BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich.– Police are continuing their investigation of a fatal crash that occurred late Friday night.

According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, 45-year-old Brian Smith from Allendale was riding his bicycle eastbound on Taylor near 88th when he was struck behind by a vehicle. It happened at around 11:30 p.m. Friday night. Smith was not wearing reflective clothing, he did not have lights on his bike, and the street was not lit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver deputies say was 18-year-old Nicole Toledo. She was wearing her seat belt and did not receive any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

    As tragic as it is it is no surprise. Bike cycles are on the roads playing with fate. You can argue that we need to share the road but, If there is an available bike path constructed from our tax money for bikes and joggers why do they insist on riding on the road? Kind of dumb if you ask me. I feel bad for both victims , both the rider and the car that hit him
