(CNN) — Comedian Joan Rivers died in a New York hospital Thursday afternoon, a week after suffering cardiac arrest during a medical procedure, her daughter said.

“She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends,” Melissa Rivers said in a written statement.

Rivers, 81, had been on life support at Manhattan’s Mount Sinai hospital, where she was taken after she stopped breathing at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic last Thursday.

The outpatient clinic is now being investigated by the New York State Department of Health, spokesman James O’Hara said.

She use to be funny and very enjoyable to watch on tv… But then she started turning mean and verbally abusive- I don’t know if this was in her own or on the advice of Hollywood greedy managers/production people or what who may have poorly advised her that pulling the machete mouth abusive schtick would make more money (I.E reality show routine BS) because its trendy and pulls in a bigger audience or what?
But if she really was that nasty, It is not going to do her any good in the after life and is not a great legacy to leave behind for her daughter and grand son either!
either way- it is sad. :-(
