Grandville youth pastor arrested on sex charges

GRANDVILLE, Mich. - A former youth pastor at a Grandville church was arrested on sex charges this week.

The following is a news release by the Grandville Police Department:

The Grandville Police Department recently began investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a now former youth pastor who was employed with the Grandville Baptist Church located at 4325 40th St SW, in the city of Grandville.

As a result of that investigation, Jeremiah Behrens was arrested on a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd degree (a potential 15 year felony) and on Criminal Sexual Conduct 4th degree (a potential 2 year high misdemeanor).  Both of these charges relate to his position of authority while being employed as a youth pastor at the Grandville Baptist Church.  The victim is a female who was at least 13 years of age but less than 16 years of age at the time of the incidents.  Also, a factor in these incidents, is that Mr. Behrens was a 5 or more years older than the victim. 

Mr. Behrens posted bond and was released from custody.  He was arraigned on 9-22-14 at the 59th District Court in Grandville.
