Antwerp Township, Mich – A man sits behind bars this morning in the Van Buren County Jail after being arrested for driving a John Deere lawn mower intoxicated.
The man was pulling a trailer driving North on CR 657 near 60th Ave at 9:00 p.m. with self attached flashlights on the front of the mower.
The suspects name is being withheld pending his arraignment. He is a 36-year-old male resident of Lawton and this is his 3rd subsequent offense.
Police pulled the lawn mower over for multiple traffic violations where Deputy Brian Matthews and Reserve Deputy Matt Wilton noticed the driver was highly intoxicated.
While Deputies began to investigate why the man was driving a lawn mower down the road in the dark, a vehicle came up from behind the mower. The Deputies shined lights on the mower to make it more visible and the oncoming vehicle was able to avoid collision.
The lawn mower was removed from the roadway and is being held for safe keeping. The case will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Please contact the Shift Sergeant or Lt Walker at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office with any additional information regarding this incident.
