SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Aaron Lewis — the lead singer of the rock band Staind and solo country/rock artist — has apologized after messing up a line during his performance of The Star-Spangled Banner ahead of game 5 of the World Series.

Lewis made his mistake in the second line of the national anthem, singing, “What so proudly we hailed were so gallantly streaming.”  The correct lyrics are, “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming.”

During the game, the singer took to Facebook and made a sincere apology.

Lewis is not the first person to botch the anthem, and many of his fans were quick to respond to his apology.
