GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The highly-anticipated new film from director Christopher Nolan — “Interstellar” — opens in theaters this Friday, but if you live in West Michigan, you have a chance to not only see it early, but see it in a format that most other people will not get to experience.

Only 41 IMAX theaters in North America are showing the film in the way Nolan originally intended:  on 70mm film.  Celebration! Cinema North is one of those theaters.

“We’re 100 percent digital, but we have a film projector for IMAX that’s been packed away after playing ‘The Dark Knight’ in film,” said Mike Doty, General Manager of Celebration! Cinema North in Grand Rapids. “We’re training people to operate the film projector again, and IMAX is helping with the cost. It’s Christopher Nolan’s way of displaying the movie as he originally envisioned it.”

“Interstellar” was shot using a combination of 35mm and 70mm IMAX film stock, which Nolan believes is the finest way to see the movie unfold.

It has a star-studded cast, led by Matthew McConaughey, who must look to the stars to find a new home.

The first show of “Interstellar” in IMAX is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4 at 8:00 p.m. at Celebration! Cinema North.  Additional showtimes are scheduled throughout the week.  Click here for tickets.
