GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–FOX 17 has confirmed the identity of the man suspected in the shooting of a Wyoming police officer on Thursday.

Sources tell us he is Alan “Al” James, 31, who lived in the 200 block of Himes Street, near the scene of the shootings.  We’re told that James is in critical condition.

The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital and later released.

FOX 17 ran a criminal background check on James.   In 2008 he was arrested and pleaded guilty to Operating While Intoxicated. In 2009 he was arrested for felony assault after stabbing his wife in the neck, but wound up pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of assault.
