MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich – Two men were hospitalized following a fiery head-on collision between two vehicles in Pine Township Friday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 2:00 p.m. along M-91 south of Stanton Road.

Deputies say a 52-year-old man from Stanton driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer was driving at a high rate of speed before failing to negotiate a curve south of Langston.

The southbound Mercury crossed the center line into the path of a 2003 Dodge Ram driven by a 60-year-old man from Trufant.

The Mercury had a gas leak and caught fire, which was extinguished by passing motorists that stopped at the scene.

Both drivers were hospitalized, but current conditions nor their names have been released.

There was a German Shepard in the Dodge Ram that was uninjured in the crash and taken from the scene by Animal Control.

Montcalm County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Lakeview Fire Department, Montcalm Fire Department, Montcalm Emergency Medical Services, and Montcalm County Road Commission.
