LAS VEGAS, Nevada. — A woman is left quite surprised after an unexpected encounter with police; receiving a $200 ticket after putting on chapstick while stopped at a traffic light.

The encounter happened on April 1st, initially leading the woman to believe she was the victim of a playful April Fool’s Day gesture.  Though she quickly realized the officer was not in fact joking around with her when he issued her the ticket- costing $200 in citations.

Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Loy Hixson told CNN affiliate KLAS that this is a city and county ordinance most people aren’t aware.

“It states that when a person is operating a vehicle they must provide full attention to the driving so that it won’t render that action to be unsafe,” Hixson said.
