PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 19-year-old woman was critically injured Monday after being shot by a 13-year-old boy in Pennfield Township.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, the two were shooting targets behind a residence in the 100 block of Clarence Boulevard at about 12:20 p.m.   When they were done shooting, officials say they walked back toward the house when the boy’s shotgun went off.

The woman’s lung was pierced during what deputies are calling an “accidental shooting.”  She is currently in critical but stable condition, according to a release.

Investigators confiscated the 20-gauge shotgun, according to a release.  The incident remains under investigation.
