GRAND HAVEN, Mich.–A crash on US-31 sent four people to the hospital Saturday night.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said it happened on the southbound portion of the highway, north of Fillmore Street, around 9:45 p.m.

They said a 35-year-old man was speeding in his vehicle, which had a boat attached to the back of it, when he rear-ended another vehicle in the right lane. The second vehicle, which had four people–including a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old–inside,  was forced off the roadway. Deputies said the first vehicle spun several times on the highway; the boat detached and rolled into a ditch.

The man inside the first vehicle apparently received a head injury and was taken to the hospital.  It’s unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Deputies said the driver of the second vehicle wasn’t hurt, but the three passengers were all taken to local hospitals due to injuries. All were wearing their seat belts and child restraints.

The crash remains under investigation.
