GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Rapids Police has 300 body cameras on the way, and with 299 police officers on staff, every officer will be wearing one.
The department announced Friday that they have enacted eight of the 12 recommendations that came from community meetings, the City Commission, city staff and department employees. Four of the recommendations were completed in March. The four that were undertaken for completion in July include developing protocols for an outside agency to investigate any GRPD officer-involved shootings and developing a public education campaign so citizens would know how to use the Civilian Appeals Board.
All sworn police officers will be trained and will be wearing the cameras when they arrive.
