HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- A teen boy is dead following a five-vehicle crash on I-196 near Hudsonville around 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Police said 13-year-old David Talsma of Hudsonville was killed in the crash, and 10 others were injured.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened because a man driving a pickup truck was distracted while eating a sandwich. That man, identified by police as 40-year-old Travis Fox, of Crown Point, Ind., rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped or stopping in a construction zone.

Fox rear-ended a vehicle driven by 16-year-old Aliya Talsma. 13-year-old David Talsma was in the backseat of that vehicle. Police said witnesses on scene attempted to revive David through CPR but were unsuccessful.

The Talsma's are the grandkids of Richard Talsma, the owner of Talsma Furniture.

All other injuries are considered non-life threatening, according to authorities.

Eastbound I-196 at 32nd Avenue and M-6 at I-196 reopened around 7 p.m. after being closed for several hours.
