SPARTA, Mich. – A 25-year-old Ravenna man has been arrested for stealing a long rifle from a sport shop in Sparta and may be responsible for other similar thefts in Kent and Muskegon County.

After Sparta Police released the surveillance photo earlier Friday from the overnight robbery at the Sparta Sport Shop, investigators from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office contacted Sparta about similar incidents in their counties.  Investigators were able to determine a suspect and served a search warrant and found the weapon stolen this morning from Sparta.

The suspect is custody, awaiting charges of Breaking & Entering, Possession of Burglary Tools, Larceny of a Firearm and other charges, which also includes a Misdemeanor Warrant from Muskegon County.  More charges from similar thefts may be added.

The suspect’s name will be released after his arraignment next week.
