ALBION, Mich. — An Albion man is in jail after police say he attempted to rape a student at Albion College early Sunday morning.

The student woke up around 4 a.m. to find a 20-year-old man in her dorm room in Wesley Hall attempting to have sex with her, according to police. The student fought the man off and yelled for help before the man ran out of the room.

Police said the student was not injured.

Authorities reviewed campus surveillance video and found the suspect in had made into another building on campus. Police believe he broke into that building, which was unoccupied at the time.

He was arrested a short time later and he’s now being held in the Calhoun County Jail.

Police said the suspect is not a student, but was visiting someone in the the same building where the attempted rape took place.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Albion Department of Public Safety or Albion College Campus Safety.
