COLDWATER, Mich. — Deputies from the Branch County Sheriff’s Department were called to the Newton Road overpass on I-69 Tuesday after a woman reported seeing a man with a gun.

The report comes as law enforcement officials from multiple agencies investigate at least three vehicles being damaged by gunfire along I-69 and I-94.

According to Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler, an Ohio woman called police just after 2:30 p.m. after claiming she saw a man with a large gun while driving southbound on the highway.  He said officials didn’t locate that man or discover anything else that would help the investigation.

The gunfire incidents are happening along I-69 and I-94 in Calhoun, Eaton and Branch Counties.   The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that close to 20 vehicles have been damaged, and three are confirmed to be from gunfire.

Most recently, a car and a truck were hit by projectiles Sept. 3.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incidents.

Police say that if your vehicle is hit, do not stop on the highway, but continue to the nearest exit and call 911.  If you have any information, you should call the tip line that has been set up specifically for this case: 269-781-9700.  You can also contact your local police department.
