GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Nine people were arrested Saturday night after refusing to end a large gathering and resisting arrest. One individual was tasered.
Grand Rapids Police said officers responded to complaints of a large disturbance a little before 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Giddings Ave. SE. Neighbors complained of a loud gathering, including a light show, bonfire, and loud music, with about 100 people attending.
The resident of the home refused to turn off the music or make the attendees leave, so she was placed under arrest for creating and permitting a disturbance. While being arrested, she pulled away from officers, and while police began to handcuff her, other people began to interfere. In all, eight others were arrested for resisting and creating a disturbance.
One person was tasered for pushing and interfering with officers while they were arresting another person.
There were more than 35 officers at the scene from various departments, including Michigan State Police, Kentwood, and East Grand Rapids.
Those arrested were lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility.
The incident continues to be under investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Grand Rapids police at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
