GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Fire Chief announced her retirement Wednesday morning.
Laura Knapp announced her plans to retire effective Jan. 9, 2016, according to a release.
Knapp has been with the Grand Rapids Fire Department for 31 years, including the last six years as chief.
Grand Rapids City Manager Greg Sundstrom said in a release that an interim chief will be named in the next 30 days and the search for a permanent successor will begin soon.
