MUSKEGON, Mich. – There’s something to be said for a company that can catch, admit to, and rectify a mistake. Fredricks Construction proved to be that type of company Tuesday, correcting a week’s old issue facing a Muskegon homeowner who had used their services.

Don Stailey, a retired military man, needed a place to relax and kick his feet up on warm summer days – so he hired Fredricks to contract a roof structure built over his porch. The job was estimated at $3,775 but when the final bill rolled in, it read a whopping $6,471. Don had only agreed to roughly a thousand dollars’ worth of approved additions, so the extra sum was virtually unexplained and never should have come out of Don’s pocket based on the original estimate.

Though the original estimator disagreed, Kurt Fredrick, the vice president of the company, wanted nothing more than to correct the issue after seeing our story on Monday. After receiving a call, FOX 17 met up with Kurt who delivered a check to Don in person.

The check was enough to cover the monies Don overpaid during construction, and with a sincere apology and acceptance, the issue was behind them.

The issue stemmed from the metal roofing on Don’s home, so for consumers looking to avoid similar issues, Kurt recommends that homeowners with metal roofs invest in ice and water shields and opt for hidden fasteners when constructing the roof.
