BYRON CENTER, Mich. -- Too often, an artist's work isn't appreciated until after death.

Don Lehman passed away last May. And while his family knew he was a talented artist - he was a trained graphic artist who worked in several art departments in Grand Rapids - they never knew just how talented he was.

That is, until after his passing.

His family was cleaning his artist studio and expected to find a couple dozen paintings. They were shocked when they found more than 100 different watercolor pieces lying around.

Whenever he was asked what he was working on, he would always reply, "I am a work in progress."

Around 60 of his pieces are on display at the Van Singel Fine Arts Center in Byron Center, in an exhibit called "A Work in Progress."

If you would like to see any of his art in person, there is a reception honoring his work Sunday, January 17th at Van Single from 2:30 PM - 4 PM. The paintings will be on display until February 11th.
