HOLLAND, Mich. — Holland police are reporting that one man is dead after his SUV crashed into a semi-truck head-on Friday afternoon on I-196.
Police say that it happened before 4:30 PM, just west of the M-40 exit on I-196. The initial investigations shows that a Ford Escape driven by 41-year-old Prashamth Kumar Muchumarri was traveling eastbound when it left the lanes and crossed the median. It re-entered the westbound lanes, right in the way of the semi.
Muchmarri was ejected from the SUV upon collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi – a 43-year-old man from Kalkaska – was uninjured.
It isn’t known at this time what caused the SUV to cross lanes. The crash remains under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is encouraged to contact Sgt. Jon Boeve at 616.355.1737 or the Holland Department of Public Safety at 616.355.1100.
