Rockford City Manager Michael Young dies after suffering stroke

ROCKFORD, Mich. — Rockford City Manager Michael Young died Wednesday at the age of 48.

According to a release, Young suffered a stroke Monday.  City officials announced Tuesday that he had been hospitalized.

Rockford’s City Council will meet Feb. 8 to determine an interim city manager, according to a Wednesday release.

Young served as city manager for more than 20 years, beginning in 1995 at the age of 28.  According to a release, the Michael F. Young ’90, ’94 Scholarship Fundhas been set up in his honorat Grand Valley State University.

“Rockford was truly fortunate to have Michael.  He was a good leader and was always full of optimism,” Rockford Mayor Gerald Coon said in a release.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
