PIERSON TWP., Mich. - A family escaped a devastating fire in Montcalm County Thursday morning.
The fire started shortly after 6:00am in the 21000 block of Pierson Road.
Crews on the scene say six people were inside the home; a mom and her two daughters, and other extended family members. One of the girls, a 15-year-old suffered serious burns. One of two dogs inside the home died. Everyone else escaped unharmed.
The homeowner, Lisa Zerba, says she woke up to her nephew screaming about a fire and when she opened the door there were huge flames in her face.
There's no word on what caused the fire, but Zerba says she thinks it could've been an extension cord inside the home.
