KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Abigail Kopf, the young victim of the Kalamazoo shooting from February 20, spoke her first word, and expressed her love for her pet, Hamlet.

The word was “pig.”

In the post on the family’s GoFundMe page, Abbie’s dad reported: “This little girl loves her pig named Hamlet. Tonight, Abbie spoke her first word. It was “pig.”

Abbie was critically wounded in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel restaurant on the night of February 20 by a gunman who killed six other people that night, including four at the Cracker Barrel.  The suspect, Jason Dalton, is also accused of wounding another woman that day, Tiana Carruthers.

Carruther’s Facebook page was updated Friday as well with news that she is trying her best to regain her strength and walk again and get out of the hospital.

Harper Creek Middle School in Battle Creek is holding a Hats Day fundraiser next Friday, March 18 to raise funds for the Kopf family.  Abbie was a student at the school.  FOX 17’s Lauren Edwards will have more on the fundraiser later today on FOX 17 News.
