MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — An early morning fire left a used car business in a shambles Saturday.

At about 2:30 a.m., the Muskegon Heights Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Betten Baker Used Cars, which is located at 2929 S. Getty St. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the building burning and heavy smoke pouring from the structure.

The building was left gutted once the fire was extinguished three hours later. Two cars inside the structure also were destroyed.

The business’ owner told FOX 17 the business was a total loss. He said he has no plans to reopen, due to a series of break-ins and thefts there recently.

Firefighters were able to rescue several vehicles parked outside near the building.

Fruitport and Norton Shores firefighters assisted the Muskegon Heights Fire Department at the scene.

Fire officials were on the scene later Saturday investigating the cause of the blaze.
