GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Well, Cascade Road is a mess already at I-96, why not minimize the length of time Cascade Road is torn up in that area? That’s the thinking behind a major resurfacing project that begins Monday, April 25, on Cascade Road west of Forest Hill Avenue.
The Kent County Road Commission plans on two phases for the project. First, replace current rough pavement between Forest Hill Avenue and Medical Park Drive with concrete pavement. That phase should be finished by Memorial Day.
Second, replace the pavement on Cascade Road between Medical Park Drive and Kenmoor Avenue with new asphalt, but that work will depend on repaving work planned for Cascade Road at I-96, so there is no start date set for Phase 2.
One lane will be kept open in both directions during the project.
To avoid the construction from eastbound I-96, exit early at M-21 Fulton Street and go east to Forest Hill Avenue. During peak traffic hours on Cascade Road, it might be best to also use Fulton Street between Forest Hill Avenue and East Beltline Avenue.
