WEST MICHIGAN — Low pressure moving from the central Plains and into the Ohio Valley overnight bought rain to much of the area. Although the heaviest rain appears to be over with, we still wound up with some pretty significant totals. Grand Rapids had the highest total of our major reporting stations at 0.43″. There’s a good chance that some backyard rain gauges had higher totals, but those numbers have not come in yet. Here is a look at rain totals from select West Michigan cities:

Some drizzle, fog, and even a spot rain shower will be possible through the day today, which may boost the numbers from this latest event a little more.

Tonight into early tomorrow morning, some of us will be dealing with more rain as an upper level disturbance traverses the area quickly from west to east. According to the model data I’ve looked at, it appears most of the rain will fall south of I-96. FutureTrack HD is consistent with this trend:

Some rain is still possible from I-96 to the north, but totals will be far lighter. Our model is picking up on 0.1″ to 0.2″ of rain in those areas, but that might be a little generous (I expect only a few hundredths of an inch at best in these areas). To the south, the 0.4″ forecast totals look reasonable:

Looking ahead… Temperatures will improve on Monday into Tuesday, and we’ll get a chance to dry out as well. Tuesday night into Wednesday, however, a strong cold front dropping in from Canada will bring us right back to the cool, gray, and wet conditions. Fortunately, this cool-down won’t last and we are expecting a warming trend to lead us into the weekend. In fact, 70s look like a good bet by Saturday!
