KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich – A portion of westbound I-94 in Kalamazoo County remains closed following a fiery crash involving a semi on Thursday afternoon.

Michigan State Police tell FOX17 the Oakland Drive/Exit 75 exit will remain closed until at least 7:00 p.m. following the crash that happened around 3:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows a Chrysler minivan lost control and struck the Oakland Drive Bridge, then veered back into traffic where it was struck by a westbound semi loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of beer.

Both vehicles overturned in the collision.

The 40-year-old driver of the semi, who is from Nashport, Ohio, was able to escape the semi before it caught fire.

Both drivers involved were transported to Bronson Hospital.  Their exact conditions weren’t immediately released.

This is a developing story.
