Griffins lose Game 6 in overtime, lose series 4-2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Griffins bid to become 4th team in Calder Cup Playoff history to come back from a 3-0 series deficit fell short Monday night.  The Griffins losing Game 6 to the Lake Erie Monsters at Van Andel Arena, 4-3 in overtime, and losing the Central Division Finals series 4-2.

The Griffins held a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd period before the Monsters scored later in the 2nd and early in the 3rd period to tie the game and send it into overtime where Zach Werenski scored the game winner.

Ryan Sproul and Tomas Nosek scored two early goals for the Griffins in the 1st period and Grand Rapids led the game 2-1 at the 1st intermission.  Xavier Ouellett scored a power play goal 1:48 into the 2nd period for a 3-1 lead, but Lake Erie's Michael Chaput scored later in the period to make it 3-2 and Lukas Sedlak scored the game tying goal 1:43 into the 3rd period.   Grand rapids goalie Jared Coreau made 43 saves, but the Griffins were out-shot by the Monsters 47-32.

The loss ends the Griffins season, the first for Todd Nelson as head coach of the team.
