PORT AUSTIN, Mich. (AP) — A dog wandering from home in Michigan’s Thumb region has killed 280 chickens, more than half of them young chicks.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says the husky was found at the scene of the attack Friday at Bird Creek Farms in Port Austin. The dead included 120 hens.

The dog was taken to an animal shelter. It’s possible the dog will be euthanized. The chickens were worth thousands of dollars.

The attack occurred before Bird Creek Farms holds a grand opening for The Tap Room, which will serve organic food and craft beer.
