One arrested after high-speed chase in Branch Co.

SHERWOOD TWP., Mich. — A simple traffic stop for defective equipment turned into a high speed chase in Sherwood Township Thursday evening.

A Michigan State Police Trooper was pulling the suspect over near Athens Rd. and Mendon Rd. around 11:02pm Thursday night when the suspect failed to stop.

The 32-year-old man from Union City led police on a high-speed pursuit through Sherwood Township before leading them through several farm fields.  The man eventually stopped, but ran into a wooded area.

After a long chase, the suspect was found and surrendered to officers. He had minor injuries and was treated at Coldwater Health Center in Coldwater.

The man is facing charges of Felony Fleeing & Eluding, two counts of Resisting & Obstructing, 2nd Offense of Operating while Intoxicated and open intoxicants.

His identity is not being released at this time. He is being held in the Branch County Jail in Coldwater.
