The explosion happened around 8:30 a.m. at the Eagle Pointe Harbor Marina near the mouth of the St. Joseph River, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to investigators, Kenneth Warren, 63, was moving his boat into the marina following engine trouble when something in the engine compartment exploded. He sustained minor injuries.
Warren’s 61-year-old wife, Barbara, who was also in the boat at the time, was seriously burned, police said. She was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
