NEWAYGO, Mich. — The body of a 34-year-old Grand Rapids man who went missing in the Muskegon River was recovered by authorities Saturday evening.
The man was reported to have been fishing off the bank of the river near Phase 2 of Riverfront Park, off Water Street, when he entered the water, according to Newaygo Police.
It’s unclear how long he was in the water before crews discovered his body.
Newaygo Dive Team members along with members of the Muskegon River Task Force recovered the man’s body near Wisner Rents Canoes.
Authorities did not immediately release the man’s name.
“Newaygo Police Department greatly appreciated the assistance of these Departments and the seamless cooperation was evident,” the department said in a news release. “Though fast in our response, a better outcome was not attained.”
