COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say police fatally shot a man who threatened officers with a baseball bat in southern Michigan.

Columbia Township police Chief David Elwell tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot that one of his officers responded Sunday to a home along with a Napoleon Township officer following a report of a domestic dispute. WILX-TV reports police had previously been called to the home.

Elwell says the man threatened officers with the bat before he was shot. The name of the man who was killed wasn’t immediately released.

The Jackson County sheriff’s department is investigating.
