NEW YORK (AP) — Defending champion Miki Sudo has won the women’s division of the annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island.

The Las Vegas woman ate 38 1/2 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to hold onto the coveted title Monday. Sudo won the contest the last two years.

Thousands of people — many wearing Nathan’s Famous hats — gathered on Coney Island’s famed boardwalk for the July Fourth contest.

The men’s competition is later Saturday. Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will face off against defending champ Matt “The Megatoad” Stonie.

Chestnut set the world record by eating 69 dogs in 10 minutes in 2013. He won eight straight competitions in a row before losing the Mustard Yellow International Belt to Stonie last year in an upset.
