KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Kalamazoo dad went out of his way to show some kindness and erase tension with police.

Darren Kinsler made a trip to Sweetwater's Donut Mill in Kalamazoo with his three children and bought four dozen donuts for Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers.  They delivered the sweets to officers Tuesday.

Kinsler said he doesn't want his kids to grow up in fear of the police or to grow up in a "war zone."  He tells FOX 17 that he grew up in a small town in the south and remembers getting the "evil eye" from white families.

He says that he's had a couple of people "unfriend" him on Facebook since making the post, but has also received a lot of positive responses.  He is issuing a formal challenge to all races "to do an act of kindness to all public safety officers and to post it on Facebook."
