State program helps people beat the heat

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Late July is often the hottest part of the summer in West Michigan, and right on cue, a heat wave is on the way.

Though it wasn't that humid Wednesday, things will change Thursday.   There could be a four or five day stretch with temperatures at or above 90, and the heat index could break 100 degrees Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for Thursday afternoon through Friday.  To beat the heat, the usual advice applies: stay hydrated and get into an air conditioned environment as often as possible.

If you or someone you know is especially vulnerable to the heat, you can also dial 211.  The Heart of West Michigan United Way's 211 program can help get you connected with cooling centers and other resources across the state.
