Kalamazoo police catch armed home invasion suspect

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Police tracked down and apprehended a suspect in an armed home invasion Saturday.

At 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of a home invasion that had just occurred in the 800 block of Gull Road. The person reporting said that a known male subject had entered a home armed with a handgun and assaulted the resident before fleeing the house on foot.

Several hours later, KDPS Sgt. Andres Wells and officer Kevin Seckler were on foot patrol in the 100 block of Candlewyck Drive when they were able to determine a possible location for the suspect. The pair made contact with him at an apartment and were able to arrest the suspect without incident.

A handgun believed to have been used in the original home invasion was recovered from inside the apartment.

The suspect is a 42-year-old Kalamazoo man. He is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of home invasion, assault with intent, felony firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.
