OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two people with a long criminal history are in jail after being caught with illegal weapons and about 16 pounds of marijuana.

Stephen Ruth, 67, and Alison Blanchette, 57, were arrested after a raid by the Metropolitan Enforcement Team on a rural road in Oakfield Township last month.

Michigan State Police led the investigation that resulted in the raid on the home that was listed in Blanchette’s name.  Police say the site included numerous trailers and sheds, and was marked with a chain warning trespassers to stay away.

Investigators say they found about 16 pounds of processed marijuana and 80 marijuana plants.  They say they also found the illegal weapons that were allegedly belonging to Ruth.  Both face charges of delivery and manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug house and being felons in possession of multiple weapons.  Ruth is a fourth-time felony offender and faces life in prison.  Investigators say both have criminal histories dating back to the 1980s.

Investigators say they were tipped off to the couple by staff at the Greenville airport after they were seen engaging in “suspicious activity” at the airport.
