KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says that a bicyclist struck in a hit-and-run crash has died.
Charles Driggers, 66, was hit while riding a bike on Cannonsburg Road near Chauncey Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Aug. 17.
Benjamin Vanderploeg, 49, of Grand Rapids, is charged in connection with the crash. Officials say the charges against him could be enhanced pending the results of an autopsy.
Driggers’ family told FOX 17 that his father was training for an Iron Man competition at the time of the crash.
