Collision with tree kills 21-year-old Lowell woman

LOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Lowell woman died when her car hit a tree Saturday morning.

At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Kent County Sheriff’s Department deputies, the Rockford Ambulance and Lowell Township Fire/Rescue responded to a fatal single-vehicle accident on Vergennes Road east of Alden Nash Avenue in Lowell Township in eastern Kent County.

The investigation showed that 21-year-old Emily Hessler was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 eastbound on Vergennes when the vehicle crossed the center line, left the roadway on the westbound side and hit a tree. Rockford Ambulance and Lowell Rescue arrived simultaneously and pronounced Hessler dead at the scene.

There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
