GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Aquinas College men’s basketball coach Dave Hammer is retiring effective September 30th due to “recurring health issues in recent years” the school said in a release Wednesday.

Assistant coach Ryan Bertoia will coach the team on an interim basis for the 2016-2017 season.

Hammer spent 13 seasons as the head coach at Aquinas and retires as the school’s all-time leader in wins with 246.

“I want to thank the college for the opportunities it gave me. I’m fortunate to have had so many great seasons as a Saint,” Hammer said in the release. “My favorite part of coaching is my time with the players and that will be the toughest thing to give up.”
