PORTAGE, Mich. — Portage Police say a 37-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly choking her teenage daughter.
Carolyn Kay Sharpe is charged with assault by strangulation, third-degree child abuse and assault and battery, according to a release.
Officials say Sharpe was arrested Monday after her 14-year-old daughter reported the assault.
She told police that Sharpe hit her in the head “several times” and choked her, according to a release. Sharpe also allegedly prevented the girl from leaving. Police say the teen later escaped to a friend’s house.
Sharpe was arraigned Wednesday and has been released from jail.
