WHITEHALL, Mich. – A husband and wife died as result of a crash Tuesday afternoon.

The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office confirm Larry Drake, 60, and Wanda Drake, 53 were killed. Police say Wanda Foster, 35, was listed in stable condition at Hackley Hospital. Police say Wanda Foster is a relative of the couple killed.

The crash happened on northbound US-31 north of Russell Road early Tuesday afternoon.  Sheriff’s deputies say that one car rolled off of the highway and came to rest against a tree.  Deputies say they believe that the car may have blown a tire before the crash.

A dog was also in the car and it survived.

“When the wrecker was pulling the wreckage away from the tree, a little dog was yelping for help and we pulled the dog out and sent it down to our animal shelter for an examination, ” said Sheriff Dean Roesler.

Deputies say alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
